It gives me a Wallace & Gromit vibe)Severe lack of variety in voicelines. (Especially in the Phoenix and general remarks from the protagonist when running into enemy camps or mutant nests. I think there's only two separate voicelines for this, and Lily in return uses the same copypaste voicelines back. It becomes very boring very quickly.)Way too console-y. (Want to get into a vehicle? Press and hold your use button. Want to climb ladders? Press and hold. Want to open chests? Press and hold. Craft items? Press and hold. Upgrades? I think you can see where I'm getting at. This takes away a hefty chunk out of the enjoyment of the game for me. It just feels extremely slow and clunky. Why can't they just let us simply press a button and be done with it?)Driving (extremely mediocre, and the cars all feel the same)Vehicular combat (autoaim to please the console plebs I'd wager)Hardcoded keybindings (to be specific, the Icarus and the motorbikes ignores my ESDF bindings in controls, which renders them undrivable. Not being able to play the game the way I want ruins the experience for me. Otherwise I'd probably try to 100% this game at least before uninstalling)Way too repetitive once you finished the campaign. It's the same things to do over and over and over.I must add this as well (edited 2019-06-02) - the stupid (and unskippable) message screens that appears whenever you cleared an enemy camp, finished a mission, or whatever. Sometimes up to three in a row. They appear, pause your game, and forces you to sit through and look at text confirming what you basically just did. Takes about 59 years for them to disappear. In my opinion these should just go away completely. I already know that I killed enemies, and probably gained experience with whatever faction. Why pause the gameplay just to show me? Just add a simple "!" notification in the corner of the screen or something. Stop slowing me down. Thank you.And this is probably a little nitpicky of me but there's just way, waaaay too many keybindings to keep track of. I'm a quaker at heart so I wouldn't say I'm a stranger to many keybindings. I'm used to having up to 6 or more weapon bindings, in addition to movement, jumping, firing, and so on. But I keep running out of keys to bind for Rage 2. There's simply too much crap; too cluttered. I even had to resort to using the weapon wheel to switch weapons, which feels too console-y... which just makes the game that much worse to me. But whatever.I think that's it.If you enjoy repetitive gameplay and can stand doing the same thing for hours on end without becoming bored out of your mind, then by all means - this game is for you. If you want variety, however... I suggest you keep looking.I really did try to like this game, but it just isn't for me. Perhaps for you?. *Updated some parts due to confusing grammar*I was probably one of the very few people who played and liked Rage 1. This game is exactly what it was advertised, which is the big reason I recommend it. The devs prioritized the gameplay over the story and it shows, but I am not really playing for the story (I play a lot of grand strategy games, but got this to just relax and have fun). I mostly came for the fluid gunplay that is on par with Doom, the car mechanics of Mad Max but a bit more refined, and the colorful atmosphere that wasn't just going to be *insert generic post-apocalypse color palette here* that every other game does. I have gotten exactly that and I love it even if some of the story is cringe inducing, because at the very least some of the characters are more memorable than Rage 1 and the devs really just wanted to have fun with the game instead of trying to make it unbearably serious and full of itself. The devs have publicly stated a few times that the game is supposed to be more open world than story driven, so anyone who bought it thinking it was going to be some sort of epic, I'm not sure what advertising you were watching.I haven't experienced any of the fatal crashes or frame rate drops people seem to be getting even though my computer is a few years old and runs most new games at low graphics (I've had consistent frame rate on medium graphic settings). However, I have had a few bugs with desynced audio or dialogue simply not being said and at one time my wingstick was invisible. Also the majority of negative reviews aren't even relevant/accurate towards the game itself, it's just people complaining about microtransactions (which there aren't any, and in game cosmetics you can get in game that are offered as separate purchases as well are hardly something to complain about), needing a FREE Bethesda account to redeem your pre-order bonuses (they've made you do this for every Bethesda title since Fallout 4, this is hardly a crime), and Denuvo being added to the game (it's most likely going to get phased out once the game gets pirated so buy the game then if it's that much of an issue for you) *As you can see Denuvo was removed within a day, guess a lot of people have no reason to complain now*. Is it worth the asking price? Compared to just about anything else currently being released by AAA devs in the West, it's more worth it than they are and I've felt that I've had my money's worth 10+ hours in. The game came completed and hasn't required a few dozen GBs of patches on day 1, the devs haven't "withheld" any gameplay from the players and I personally liked that the pre-order "DLC" are items you need to complete a mission for just to receive instead of starting the game with them. The game isn't behind some sort of exclusivity launcher and is here on Steam. There's a lot of stuff done right and considering that majority of games are either dull and safe, or being released half finished at full price, people should give credit to id and Avalanche for this instead of ♥♥♥♥♥ing about being able to buy a gun skin that you can still obtain in game without paying extra money for.. Can't recommend this game at full price, at the very least wait for a sale. A 60 dollar game with a 10 hour story is just not okay with me, and I know there's many side missions and♥♥♥♥♥♥but they're not fun because after doing the same side missions for many hours they become repetitive. Story is extremely boring, the characters are also boring, The only fun part about the game is the gameplay, abilities are fun and there's lots of upgrading you can do to make those abilities funner. That's it, the rest of the game is lackluster. Not really sure what the devs were thinking here, perhaps to just make a huge sandbox type of game with lots to do and call it a day. Was expecting a decent story with not so repetitive missions which is what we got in Rage 2. This game is a 5/10 at most.. The game's not bad, but I'm going with a "Don't Recommend" rating based on the price tag.If this game was $29.99 or cheaper, I'd recommend it, so maybe keep it in mind if it ever goes on deep sale.Pros:-Great gunplay and core combat mechanics. The game really shines when you're in the thick of battle. Combat feels similar to Doom, but a bit slower and more methodical. I spent more time during engagements calculating my next moves, as opposed to Doom where during most engagements all I could think was "Oh s h i t, oh ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ oh ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ oh s h i t!"-Interesting art style with some great visuals. Gore aplenty.-The world feels very alive or at least lived-in. Despite how over the top and silly it can be, it still feels like a real world and can be quite immersive.Cons:-Vehicle combat is lackluster. This is the #1 reason I'm not recommending it. This is a game that largely sold itself as a Mad Max style game with a big emphasis on the vehicular combat, but I've yet to have much fun with it. Vehicle handling with mouse and keyboard isn't terrible, but it is done better by many other games. Also, your main vehicle comes equipped with auto-aim weapons. I looked for a way to turn off the aim-assist, but couldn't find a way to do it. This takes a considerable amount of fun out of the combat. There are a good variety of vehicles, some of which feel decent to use, but overall I really haven't had much fun engaging in what is supposed to be one of the game's marquee features.-The game feels very padded. Lots of driving from one spot to the next. Sure, there's stuff you can find along the way, but I still groaned every time a quest marker popped up on the other side of the map.-It's very grindy for a single player game. Rather than having linear story missions, it gives you three factions you have to build your reputation with to progress the story. This means you have to grind side activities for HOURS.-There's a good amount of depth to the game's progression, but it crosses the line into feeling excessive.. I'm not bothered by deep and complex progression systems if the game is something I plan on putting many hours into. However, after 7 hours I've already concluded that I will not continue playing after the campaign is over, so dealing with the progression systems at this point just feels tedious.-Boss fights are a bit of a joke. Granted I'm only 7 hours into the game, so there might be better bosses later on, but the one's I've been encountering have all been a joke. Pop Overdrive, spam rockets and/or shotgun blasts into the enemy's head or weak points, it's over. Doom's boss encounters were far superior.Overall, the game's combat is enjoyable enough where I plan on grinding out the campaign until it's over to get as much value as I can out of the purchase. However, I don't think this game is worth the price tag. For me, a $60 game should provide me with at least 30 hours of entertainment, or in cases like Doom 2016, 15 hours of heart-pounding exhilaration. Rage 2 has its exhilarating moments here and there, but there's far too much downtime and too much tedium in between those moments.. Rage 2 is a fun game but for me its not worth it unless its on salePros: - Fun and fluid combat- Decently sized map- Wide range of weapons/vehiclesCons:- Graphics are not that impressive, lots of pop-in- Gets repetitive quick- Driving feels bad (think Just Cause 4)- Story and characters could be betterAll in all its not a terrible game but its not worth the asking price of 70$. Wait for a sale. RAGE 2's on-foot combat is really solid and fun once you have all of the abilities and weapons, but I'm hard pressed to say that makes up for the rest of it being really average. It's a well made, but very unambitious game. It's ironic they rip on the original game in the marketing, given this game falls into the same holes. Admittedly, larger, more open holes. RAGE 2's main story is insultingly low effort, and phoned in. There's nothing to spoil; the antagonist destroys your home, you track him down and kill him. That's literally, literally it. And it lasts maybe a couple of hours. It's far, far less eventful than the original game, just with a whole load more open world padding to fill out the run time. There's very little new here, either. You meet the same characters, the same factions, and fight the same enemy. It made me angry when the credits rolled, I had the exact same feeling of "really, that's it?" from the first game. Nothing of interest happens. The entire game. No character development, no plot twists, no exploration of any of the factions.RAGE 2's open world is markedly smaller than other recent titles, and yet still as empty. As you traverse around you'll see pins pop up on your map for random errands, busy work to earn you notches on meters that slowly build up to a level increase or something you really just don't care about. Unlike a game like Fallout, you won't find any interesting stories in locations either. You might find a data pad with a recent entry from some raider or scout, but never anything deeper. Nothing is going on in this world. It's set dressing, nothing more.Avalanche must've brought some of their Mad Max experience to this game, as the exterior locations look gorgeous and a lot of the outposts have a nice lived-in feel. Sadly, the interiors are poor. Especially the Authority locations, which make zero effort to feel like tangible places. Everything is a corridor, or an empty open room, or a boss arena. If I didn't know better, I would've guessed a procedural system spat these levels out. Oh, and it does that thing. You go back to your hometown after what feels like weeks, and everything is still on fire. Your friend talks to you like it's been five minutes. It makes it painfully clear the world is static, and unreactive. There's a disappointingly small pool of vehicles to choose from, especially compared to Mad Max, another Avalanche title. And very little vehicle combat; unlike the aforementioned title, enemy vehicles will often drive past without firing. Admittedly, the convoy's are good fun here. They made up for the lack of the harpoon with multi-stage vehicles, which is a fun addition. The only vehicle you'll use is the default one, because it's the only one with decent weapons, and the only one that can be upgraded. That and the Icarus, because it makes getting around much less of a chore.RAGE 2 has a GOOD shotgun, which instantly gives it points in my book. It's all I used, the other weapons were fun distractions but just not practical. I was clearing rooms with the shotgun, instead of fiddling around with alt-fire modes that did less damage than a good accurate buckshot to the face. The abilities are good, too, giving you a lot of motion and options. RAGE 2's on-foot combat in general is just brilliant. I was playing on Hard, and I never took cover. The abilities and overdrive keep you pushing, and killing, and it's gloriously fun. There's enough here to keep you entertained if you're just in it for the on-foot combat, and are planning to play it in bursts rather than over one long session. It just feels like there was very little substance here.I feel a bit bad giving this one a negative review, given I did enjoy it. I just can't recommend it. There's nothing here apart from the gunplay to recommend, and for a full priced AAA game from a legendary developer and publisher that's pretty poor effort.Pick it up cheap, blast the main missions, ignore the side content and treasure hunts. Just go all-in on combat, and you'll have a lot of fun.. My two cents on this game mainly points at the adventure of this game, or lack-of. When it comes to combat, yeah the combat is good, fun, dashing around blowing up goons just like I did in Borderlands, traversing across a fairly large map in different vehicles has it's perks - even though a lot of the map you'll never go to because there's simply nothing there.. but anyway - If you're looking for a similar experience to Skyrim or Fallout and even FarCry where you have a massive map to work with, many quests / missions/ jobs to do even after you finish the story, then look somewhere else. If you commit to the story of this game you'll have it done in about 12 hours, give or take depending on difficulty / commitment. After that you won't feel a commitment to this game, even when you drop as much money as you did (which is quite sad I think). As for non-story jobs - you'll get excited for maybe an hour or two in the 'Finish all these challenges' mentality, but soon realise that it's extremely repetitive and and in the end, bloody tedious. I might be more inclined not to give it a bad review if it was priced closer to £30. £20 would be a snatch. However I do feel like I was cheated given the price of this game and the experience I had. Definitely get it on sale if you're going to: How much would you spend for 10 hours of your time?. 10 story mission.......10! thats it. i have 19 hours on this game because i was running around doing stuff. i didnt beleave that i was walking into the final mission.. yes i had fun running around but once i got bored of all the repetitive go here kill all these goons or go here kill these mutants i thought oh ill progress the story and see if it openes up the last 2 areas that seem empty....no you get a sopranos cut to black screen and then credits. wake up and its all over and all you have left to do is the same old kill these goons in this raider base then go and kill these goons in this raider base. Oh side mission yea go and kill this goon in this base......REALLY i paid $130 for 10 story missions which on normal i could of belted out in a couple of hours the longest part being driving from one mission to the other.......Yes the game is nice to look at and the combat flows really well. i found i forgot about my "super powers" because no raiders really push you against the wall enough to make you use them. the map is empty and filled with nothing. Coming off rage 1 i would of thought the world would of been filled with people trying to survive with fun exciting mission. No its just raiders and mutants.... $130 wasted.... i guess we have to wait for dlc to get any good story.... Dont waste your money wait for a big sale to buy this game.I live in australia the game is $130 for delux here. Would not recommend this game for $60. Took me about 10 hours to complete the main story which seemed like it consisted of only 8 quests or so. My playtime is where it's at because I left it on overnight. There's still a lot of SIDE stuff to do but it's all tedious and boring. Map is pretty small and empty. Copy/paste buildings and no inside areas to explore besides story quest areas. Never died playing through it on Hard difficulty either. I just can't tell someone this is worth it at the current price.. Would not recommend this game for $60.
